NSAIDS after gastric bypass

I would not take NSAIDs post RNY, no way no how. Its just not worth it to me to put my body at risk. And I do get severe pain post op (menstrual migraine each month along with severe menstrual cramps).

I use Tramadol for the menstrual problems, does it work as good as Advil, no, but it does work.

Sorry you are still having pain but do yourself a favour and stay far away from NSAIDS and figure out another plan of care for pain.

I had RNY on 8/2/15. I had a rotator cuff and bicep repair surgery on 11/6/18.

I am still in PT. I can raise my arm above my head and out to the side. I often have ice my shoulder for pain. I usually sleep about 4 hours, until the pain wakes me up. Sometimes, it is from sleeping in the recliner wrong, or that it is stiff and needs to be worked.

I have often injured my shoulder since surgery. It is the little things. I can not walk or use the elipitical without pain the next day. I tried walking in water (no go), I can ride a bent bicycle in the gym for 20-30 minutes. Ten min on the elipitical and the next morning-pain.

Sewing, is painful. You keep raising your shoulder. Little things that I keep doing wrong. Today, a big one. I shoveled the snow to my car. My husband had a hernia repair a few days ago, so I was the best candidate for snow removal. After, I took a flexeral and a nap with the ice machine on. I am not looking forward to tomorrow. The thing is that it never hurts when I am doing something, the pain is the next day. UGH

I have had many surgerys. Little pain. This one is a painful recovery. It is a long recovery. 3 months of PT. Then the opportunity to re-tear for 3-6 months.

I take flexeral when the pain is bad. I still have about 70 codeine left from the surgery. It didn't work too well, and the doctor would not prescribe anything else. So.... mostly ice and flexeral when it is bad or I am stupid.

My surgeon said specifically no NSAIDs, ever. Not in pill form, not in patch form, not in cream form. I live several hours away from the city I had rny in, and many of the doctors here are stupid about bariatric surgery and aspirin use or NSAID use after. I have had it prescribed twice already. Am my own advocate now, and I would never use them. I have very bad osteoarthritis, and rarely sleep more than a couple of hours at a time. Unfortunate but reality.
