Hi. I just read your post on your upcoming cruise. In January I went on my second cruise as a 6 month postie. I was a little intimidated remembering how I'd eaten 6 years ago on a cruise, but this surgical tool really helped me this time. I didn't deny myself anything, if I wanted it, I ate it, but I only had a bite or two of everything!! I figured, the meals and buffets are all included in the price of the cruise, so I wasn't really wasting food if I ordered it and only took a bite or two of each thing. I ended up losing a couple of pounds during the cruise, probably all the walking and snorkeling I could now do. I never felt deprived or like I was on a diet. Occasionally our very attentive waiter would ask me if my food was okay, because he was usually removing most of it from under my nose, but I assured him that everything was wonderful, I could only eat a little bit of each course because of a strict diet I was on! I usually just passed on the bread, salad and potato portions, and tried to stick to the culinary treats of the protein type. But I admit that some days I succumbed to the wonderful pastry or crossaint, but I only had a bite or two. It worked out well. Good luck to you as you plan your cruise, it will be fine as long as you plan not to stuff your little pouch, and as soon as you feel full, stop eating. This surgery makes it easy.

Hi. I'm curious. I'm pre-op, scheduled for end of May and searching for a protein that's bearable. You mentioned liquid protein. what kind are you using? Linda

B Weatherall - you will not be a failure. If you do what your doctors says, and start walking when you have recuperated, the weight will fall off you so fast that you'll be shocked. I had my RNY a year ago and I have lost 154 lbs, and I walk 3 to 4 miles a day. (I'm 57 years old). Honest this is the best thing you could ever do. You will not want to fail because you will see that weight fall off you. Stay positive.

I talked to Brigette today and she is very good spirits. She is trying to decrease her pain meds today. She has been up moving, and all seems to be well. She was even laughing! She said she hasn't had trouble keeping anything down, and even tried some mashed potatoes today.
