Alle- the wonderful thing about this dream is you control it! I was one that told everyone I was having surgery, and to this day still tell everyone. I am sorry that your coworkers made you feel bad, but you can take the power back. There is no shame in having the guts to take contol of your life.

Allee I am so sorry about your co workers upsetting you. I am so sorry that you feel violated. I am scheduled to have surgery on November 3rd and I have chose not to tell any of my coworkers and very few friends. Having this procedure to me is a private choice and we should decide who we want to tell if if decide to tell anyone about it. They can assume or try and guess but we should not have to be pressured in revealing things related to our health by others. In time I may decide to tell others but as for right now I have only told my parents, children and my husband. I understand that we don't like keeping secrets from people that we are considered friends but I believe some things are private. Please don't let your co-workers steal your joy.

Hey Allee ~ It was probably my post you saw on a staple line disruption. I had a VBG done in 1989. They didn't transect the stomach and the staple between my pouch and the rest of my stomach has opened up. It's something that is rather common in this type of surgery over time and I am going to have a revision to a RNY hopefully this year. I can't tell you if it hurt or not but I was able to eat more over time and probably the types of foods that I was eating didn't help. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to email. Have a good one!

Hi, Allee: I tried to e-mail you, but it came back to me.
I'm no expert, but I'll try to answer some of your questions.

1: Staple line disruption: I'm sorry, I don't have an answer for that one. Perhaps you could check the library and look under SLD.

2: Diet 7-up: My surgeon said we could try decaf diet colas at 3-6 months out, but beware of them because some have phosphoric acid that binds to the calcium we take and depletes it from our bones. However, if it causes you no problems, and it doesn't contain the phosporic acid, you should be fine, especially since diet 7-up is caffeine and sugar free.

3: Waiting 30 minutes after eating before drinking: both of the things that you listed are possibilities. The liquid turns our food into "soup", therefore making it empty out of our pouch sooner and making us feel hungry sooner. Also, if you've filled up your pouch with food, and you try to drink too soon, it could stretch the pouch if not enough food has emptied yet.

4: My nutritionist said to think of the pouch and the stoma as a funnel: she didn't give us an exact time frame, but said that if you sip fluid, as if you were pouring a little bit of fluid into a funnel, it would empty out fairly quickly.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions! Take care, Moysa

I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY~*~ I said a prayer for you today And know God must have heard- I felt the answer in my heart Although He spoke no word I didn't ask for wealth or fame, I knew you wouldn't mind, I asked Him to send treasures Of a far more lasting kind, I asked that He'd be near you At the start of each new day, To grant you health and blessings And friends to share your way. I asked for happiness for you In all things great and small, But it was for His loving care I prayed the most of all.~*~Hugs~*~

I also had backache but it went away. I was told my backache was from laying on that metal slim table during my operation, also it could be from not getting enough water. I had left side pain with it too. also about watermelon and v-8 juice, I tell ya, I had my share of both. I had cravings for it and I ate it with no problems, I did't gain I continued my weight loss. My wls was 12/6/02 and as of today I've loss 125 lbs and I still eat these things. hang in there and try to stay focused and positive**Hugs**
