Question:
Will I really be able to return to work in two weeks?

I am having a Lap RYN and was told that since I am an administrative assistant that I should be able to return back to work in approximately two weeks. This seems really soon? I was wondering what anyone in my line of work thought or what they did?    — Nicole F. (posted on December 5, 2001)

I do the same work as you and I was off for 2 1/2 weeks because of the Thanksgiving holiday but I could of returned after 2. You have to take it slow but you should be ok. I was really tired the first few days back so make sure you get plenty of rest.

I had surgery on Monday 8/6/01 and returned the next Monday - 1 week !!! I had no problems at all. I am inthe same line of work as you and felt fine. Was pooped at end of day,but that got better.

I did limited work just over a week post op. I would of done more but for the weight lift limit. My job requires heavy lifting. My profile has a detailed diary, I would say you will TRY to work, depending on how you feel..

I have a full-time office position, and returned to work 8 days after my lap RNY. I was careful to get up from my desk and walk for brief periods about every hour, because its important to keep your circulation "moving" and guard against blood clots in those early post-op weeks. However, I had no problems other than moderate fatigue at the end of the day....nothing that a shower and a nap as soon as I got home didn't take care of :-) Good luck!

I had an OPEN rny and was back to work in 2 weeks. I too have a desk job and had no difficulty whatsoever. I made sure to get up and moved around several times an hour, and naturally I was tired at the end of the day, but I would've been tired if I'd stayed home, too. Actually, coming back to work gave me a feeling of normalcy.
