Question:
Help! My Zoloft burns my pouch!

Hi...I'm a week post-op. Every day I try something new to get my Zoloft down. I've tried cutting it up in 4 pieces, taking it with warm tea, cutting in two pieces, eating something with it, taking chewable Tums right after I take it...every time it burns my pouch, feels stuck, for about 2 hours afterwards. I usually lay down until it feels better. I HAVE to take my Zoloft. I have a complex depression. But it is irritating my pouch and making me feel sick for the rest of the day. I didn't take it yesterday at all and my pouch felt so much better. Today I started to feel the withdrawal feelings...dizzy, swimmy feeling behind my eyes, and starting to cry a little. So I took it. My shrink is out of town until June. I don't know what to do. Hugs, Joy    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on May 9, 2002)

Zoloft DOES come in an "oral concentrate." Call your shrink's office... someone must be taking call for him. Tell them what is going on and ask them to phone in a prescription for a week or two worth of the liquid. It's worth a try. However, it's possible that it's not the FORM, but the actual drug that is bothering your pouch. You need to talk to someone about this. Don't just stop your meds and let yourself crash. If you're like most of us on antidepressants, you know how hard it is to crawl back up out of the hole after a crash. Keep on top of things and good luck!

Joy, you *need* medical advice on this one. If your shrink is away, talk to your general practitioner, or your surgeon. I developed depression a while ago and had to start taking Effexor -- found that it went down okay, but within half an hour of eating, my guts would go into spasms that were excruciating. I had to go off the Effexor and onto something that doesn't bother my tummy -- you might need to change antidepressants, too. Please talk to your doctor.

I HAVE BEEN TAKING ZOLOFT 50MG SINCE THE DAY I GOT HOME. I CRUSH IT WITH A MORTOR AND PESTAL. PUT ON TOP OF YOGURT OR SURGER FREE PUDDING, THEN COVER IT AND TAKE THE SPOON FULL ALL AT ONCE. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM AT ALL.
