Question:
Did you have to have your station raised?

I work in a call center, and my desk is a cube. With a doctor's note, we have the option to have our Ergo department "raise" our station to a stand-up station. They do this by raising our computer platform higher, and giving us a taller chair. That is so we can either stand or sit, and still do our job comfortably. This is usually done for pregnant women and people with back or knee problems that can't sit for long periods of time. I was wondering if anyone out there had this done at their workplace, and found it beneficial when it comes to pain management. I'm having Lap RNY on 09/11/02, and if I need to get my station raised, want to get the request in before I leave. Any advice or personal experience would be greatly appreciated. Amanda - Although I am only 5-1/2 weeks post-op I think it would be a great idea to have the option to sit or stand at work. I know I am still unable to sit for extended periods of time without lower back pain. I have also read a lot of posts from longer term posties who still have some back pain after sitting awhile. I don't know the answer to your question, because I didn't have any back pain pre-op or post-op. I can sit for long periods of time with no problem. However, I know that when I've tried to use one of the raised workstations (with a tall chair), I've found it *very* uncomfortable and awkward, so I just want to encourage you to try someone else's out for a few hours before you make your decision. Also, have you thought about getting one of those chairs where you kneel and lean forward rather than sit? I have worked at one of those stations before, and I found that to be pretty comfy. I worked at something similar years ago. My legs killed me dangling there for the longest until I got use to it. Thru c-secs, ovary removal etc... I've found my cubicle to be as comfortable as it ever was.
