I think you should check out chewable vitamins - and I take 1500 mg calcium CITRATE in gel caps (filled with "powder") so you could actually open up the geletine capsules and mix in water or food if your had trouble. Or there is liquid cakcium citrate or wafers to chew. Nothing bad will happen to you if you don't get these things right away. As long as you can drink water you will survive for some time.

As far as "BIG PILLS" after surgery, you should not even try. If you do have to take pills, you need to be able to split them in 1/2 or 1/4's to take them, depending on how big they are, or crush them in some apple sauce. You sure do not want one to get stuck, that would be a big ouch.If you are having RNY remember your opening is going to be smaller than a pencil eraser, so no room for a big pill to go through. I am at 5 months and try and get the Dr to prescribe liquid meds for me. Good Luck on your upcoming surgery

If you ask the pharmacist they will cut pills for you so they are small enough for you to swallow. My docs rule of thumb is...do not swallow anything larger than an M&M. Good Luck to ya! Tonya
