Question:
Restarting Xenical 4 Months Post Op

Has anyone taken Xenical post op to aid in the "Extra" preventing of fat absorbtion. Having loosing only 40lbs at 14 weeks post op I was kicking around the idea of restarting the Xenical in which I had previous to surgery been prescribed. I do realize that this would be against a Dr. recommendation but am looking for input from others that may have used this medication.    — Rebecca B. (posted on September 26, 2002)

Please don't do this. Your insides are all different now and you could have a real problem with this drug. Maybe you can change something in your eating and exercise routine that would help you? Maybe having your food and water intake examined by an objective party might shed some light on your slow weight loss. Still you have to think of it like this....you've lost 40 lbs and that's fantastic! Good luck and God bless!

Please do not do this. It is not safe. You have lost 40 pounds and that is great. Weight loss differs for each person. There could be any number of reasons you have not lost as quickly as you thought you would, so I have some questions for you. What type of wls did you have? What do you eat in a reg. day? How much and what do you drink as well as when? How much exercise do you get in and what type? What was your starting weight? I know you may think why is she asking all this but it can tell us maybe what is causeing a slower weight loss rate. Please let me know. Hang on and let your new tool work. You have lost 40 pounds already. Denise Foster, Pa

If I am mistaken, forgive me, but I thought Xenical also prevented us from absorbing some vitamins?

Only a quack would perscribe this drug to a patient who has gone through WLS

I had a friend that used Xenical and had such terrible stomach problems on it, I cannot imagine using it after WLS. It would reak havoc on your insides!
