Question:
I went to see a therapist in September and again in December on my own to be sure if

having this surgery is right for me. My insurance company does not require this. I think my surgeon requires some sort of psychological clearance. My therapist wrote a nice letter talking about our sessions and the discussion of the wls and the implications that can happen and he stated that he felt I am psychologically ready for this surgery. My question is, do you think this is enough for my Doctor since my insurance company don't require any psychological testing or even a consult.    — April N. (posted on January 6, 2003)

I think its enough. Its really to see if you are depressed and perhaps need some medication or ongoing therapy. If you have any deep emotional problems that will interfer with your surgery success. To make sure you have real expectations of surgery I did medical review on WLS for 6 years and this is why they wanted it.
