Question:
Post Op Pain @ Top Of Incision (Open RNY)

I am 10 mos post-op (open rny). I am having pain at the top of my incision and it does hurt a little more when I press it. It's not the incision area that hurts but something underneath (probably it's where the pouch is). I checked the questions but didn't see any that fit. I will be giving the doc a call today but was hoping someone here might have an idea so I'll know what to expect. It's not a hernia cuz I just was at the docs last week and he felt everything and said it was normal.    — Peggy D. (posted on February 20, 2003)

Update to my question: I called the doc and the nurse said that it's most likely a pulled muscle from shoveling snow, etc. She told me to take advil 3 times a day. I have an appt for Tues if the pain doesn't go away.

Please call back and speak to the DOCTOR, we are not supposed to use NSAIDS (advil) or aspirin only Tylenol products.

Just a reminder.... not every doctor's post op instructions are the same. Some doctors prohibit advil. Others, like mine, do not. We need to stop assuming everyone's instructions are just like our own. The questioner's doctor's instructions are what's important here. Shelley

I would still double check that the advice to take advil came from the doctor and not just the nurse....I have had nurses give me advice like "take some Robitussin" when I was having an asthma attack. Like I said in my first post, check with the DOCTOR!
