Question:
What can someone who is post-op take for a simple headache?
I'm pre-op, surgery in 24 days. Will I be able totake pills? Or is there an adult liquid form of tylonal? I've seen people write about opening capsules and taken them that way, but, my thinking is, if it's in a capsule, it's in it for a reason. My surgeon says liquid tylenol very early on then regular plls after a
month, but do ask your surgeon. Its not a problem.

i'm 4 days pre op, and asked my surgon the same question. he said to take
adult liquid tylenol. i searched and finaly found it. you can find it at
drugstore.com

Please be aware that Liquid Tylenol has sugar in it in the form of high
fructose corn syrup:

Surgeons have diffent opinions on post-op medications. Our surgeon starts
Percocet tablets for pain the day after RNY surgery and resumes all
previous medications on the day of discharge. He does not advocate cutting
or crushing medications or taking liquids...also had no restrictions
regarding capsules. Most bariatric surgeons only allow Tylenol
(acetominophen) products for mild pain....no ibuprofen (Aleve, Motrin,
etc...) or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications due to the
risk of gastric irritation. Talk to your surgeon about his preferences so
that you will be informed and prepared ahead of time. Best wishes!

Liquid Tylenol made me dump!!!!! Ask your doctor for all of the
alternatives! Good Luck! I have not found a mild pain reliever that really
works. I do take Celebrex for back pain though and it works decently with
no real side effects.

Ask your surgeon if you can take Excedrin post-op, because they have new
"QuickTabs" that dissolve in your mouth, they are the size of an
alka seltzer tablet. No pill to swallow and no water needed.

I was also told that I could take liquid (children's) Advil. Of course, it
has sugar too though!

I take the Excedrin quick tabs and they work really well. I am 3 weeks out
