Question:
Pulse in Abdomen

Just a quick question for long term post ops. I have lost 150 pounds now and am actually under my goal. Has anyone experienced a pulsating abdomen as you have gotten skinnier? I don't have any pain now, a few weeks ago I did, but that quit. Just this morning I noticed the pulse. Any help would be appreciated.    — D H. (posted on April 21, 2003)

ohhh..I know what you're talking about...I have it, but no pain. I notice it more when I'm laying down and I rest my arm across my belly. It's just weird..it's also weird to see my pulse in my wrist, my neck, the crook of my arm, etc...My "skinny" friends say it's normal...lol

Not to be an alarmist, but you might want to have your doctor check this out, especially as you mentioned pain. I worked in emergency medicine for several years, and sometimes a pulsatile abdomen (especially with pain) could be an indication of an abdominal aneurysm. Yours probably is not - you're probably just actually feeling vibrations from your heart, now that you've lost enough weight, but what's the saying? Better safe than sorry... just my two cents' worth...

ME TOO!! I was alarmed the first time that I noticed it, its very strange. My husband is an Independent Duty Corpsman in the Navy (similar to a Physicians Asst.) and he says that it is normal. He actually threw out a term for it, but I cannot remember it. But to be on the safe side, you could always have it checked out.
