Question:
Ive read on several posts people take wooden spoons and tongs to the hospital.

To put TP or flushable wipes on and clean certain areas of the anatomy immediately post-op. I actually bought an item called a "Bottom Buddy" (I got it at http://www.dynamic-living.com/bottom_buddy.htm) that I used in the few months pre-op (after I read about it here) and continue to use post-op when I am at home. I can reach back there now (for the first time in years), but with the Bottom Buddy I can get so much cleaner...JR (open RNY 07/17 -172 pounds)

I hadn't heard of tongs, but I had heard of long-handled wooden spoons to assist in reaching those 'hard-to-reach' places when wiping yourself after going potty in those first couple of days post-op. I was blessed to have compassionate nurses to assist me with that (and I was able to manage by myself within 24 hours), so I used my wooden spoon for a back scratcher! :)

its your dirty hiney, it needs to be cleaned and with the swollen belly and inabilty to bend to reach it, something might be needed t help you wipe it! i used a hack saw frame. now do not think this to odd, it is perfect, sturdy, perfect shape, it worked great until i was able to bend myself to reach. if you are lucky you will have someone to help wipe you, i am not so blessed.

The spoon was a great invention, in my opinion, it was a very handy item. I wrapped the handle end with toilet paper and had to change it a couple of times and then I wrapped it with the cottenell disposable wipes. Im glad it was suggested before I had my surgery. mine was only $1.00 with a thicker rubbber handle on the end, I got it at walmart in the check out isle.
