Question:
Has anyone experienced this kind of pain?

I am almost 4 weeks post op, and have had no pain or complications until last night. I had back pain and nausea; I took some of my liquid Lortab, which seemed to help some. Today, I've been experiencing back pain and what feels like gas pains/cramps in my stomach, from my ribs to my pelvic area. It comes in waves that last about 30 seconds. I have been having bowel movements daily, but they are very small. Has anyone had this, and do you think milk of magnesia will help? I have my 1 month follow up on Tuesday, but any reassurances would be appreciated.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on May 10, 2003)

Hi! I have actually been having the same exact pain since Friday off and on. It was so intense on Friday that even Vicaden didn't kill the pain so I went to the ER. After coming home I was in just as much pain. The Drs didn't find any blockage of anything so I decided to take myself back to the liquid diet and start over - very slowly. If you find an answer - please let me know! (Surgery 4/18 was 282 - now 242) SHell

WOW - I had same pains and went to ER. WIth no results, they did a pelvic and urine and PG test! GREAT HELP! ANyway, I kept saying I thought it was surgery related but they disagreed and my surgeon agreed w/ER doc. Anyway, I hope I don't have a fistula as someone more recently wrote her pain may be due to that and acid. I think my stoma may have been blocked and gas was building up in my pouch. Considering the docs have no help for me, I guess I will stick with this idea.

Original poster here - I believe my problem was constipation. I took Milk of Magnesia on Saturday evening, and by Sunday morning, I had a "normal" b.m. I had been "going" daily, but I guess the volume was insufficient. Since then, there has been no pain (knock on wood). Hopefully, this will help someone else with this problem.
