Question:
Will I ever see a size 18??!!

I know that similar questions have been asked before, but I want my own answers. Sooo...When did you start to drop sizes?? Like, how much weight had you lost before you dropped a size, or two?? I started in a tight 24, and after losing 58 lbs., am only in a comfortable 22!! I can wear some 20's, but they are a little snug. I just thought that after nearly 60 lbs., I'd be into an 18!! AHHH!! It's frustrating, lol. At this rate I'll never see a 14, which is what I really want to get into. Thanks to everyone who responds!!! :o) ~ Cat    — Cat S. (posted on July 22, 2003)

I was starting to get very frustrated that I was losing this weight and not changing sizes! Just know that it does happen and once it does you can't keep up with buying clothes. I have lost 97 pounds so far and have gone from a size 26/28 to (finally!) an 18 - I just bought them yesterday actually. I think once the intial drop you change sizes rather quickly, in the past month I've gone down 2 pants sizes. I hope it continues!

In my situation I dropped sizes quickly then hit a standstill at about 6 months out. I started at 26/28 and now -109 pounds later, I'm in a solid 14. I'm only 20 or so pounds away from goal but I thought for sure I'd be in at least a 12 and maybe a 10 by now. And to make things worse, there are some ladys at my support group that have lost about the same as me and are in 8's to 10's. GRRRRR.... I guess we will make it in our own sweet time. ~Sidney~ Open RNY 10-23-02 down 100+ and counting

I had this same situation. I had lost 40 some odd pounds in 3 months and dropped only one size, went on vacation for 2 weeks, came home dropped 20 lbs. and 2 sizes. Weird I know. I can't tell you why, but it does happen. You sound a lot loke me. Before surgery I could be heard saying "I would be happy to get to my high school size of 14. But now in a size 12, I'm loving the thought of a size 6. Hoping to get there after the plastics. You will get there. I've been able to keep up with shopping by selling my old 26/28s on Ebay. Good luck to you sweetie. You will def. see that size 18, probably even an 8!

Uh huh...you'll get to an 18. Then you'll fly thru them and get to a 16...then you'll wonder if you'll ever see a 14 and that with a 14 you'll be satisfied. Then at 14 you'll want to really be a size 12....and so on and so on. Kim -- size 10/12 but really want to be an 8...ha ha

You will see 18 very soon. I thought the same thing at first when after losing 35 lbs in just a few weeks I was not in a smaller size. I am now 10 weeks post op and down 58 lbs. Three weeks ago I bought a size 20 (snug) levi's jeans and today I'm in a 16. The 18's sort of slid right past me. Trust me, it will seem crazy when it happens.

I think the sizes drop quicker the smaller they get. I started in a tight 30/32. I have lost 120 lbs and now I am in a 22/24. I am hoping the sizes will start to drastically change soon also.

I started out in a size 30/32 stretch pant and after losing 175 pounds I am in a size 22 stretch pants (comfortably). I doubt I'll get into a smaller size until I get my panni removed. It just gets in the way! Looking at your stats though, I see no reason for you not to achieve an 18 and fairly soon. Good luck!

I was thinking about this clothing size issue just last night. I started out in a wardrobe of 26/28 and 30/32s. After losing about 40 pounds, I was in 22/24s. After 50 pounds, I could fit into 18/20. Now at 63 pounds gone, I am a solid 18. (I'm also pear-shaped, and 5'10"). The last time I remember fitting into a size 18, I weighed about 40 pounds less than I do now. So I guess something is going on with body fat composition and muscle weight/tone as I move down the scale now. I also really want to get into a 14, and I have no idea what weight I would need to be at to get there. But I know that once you lose your first size or two, it takes fewer pounds to get down to the next size, so hang in there! You'll get down there, but in your own time ;)

Just wait and see!!!! It will start soon and like the others have said, you will go through the sizes really quickly. I started in a tight 24, and today I went into The Limited and put on size 12. Yikes!!! In 5 months and 78 pounds all of this has happened. I would order stuff from The Gap online, and by the time it came I had to return it at the store. The best chore i ever had. I have to hold back on my shopping because I don't wear the clothes often enough to make it worthwhile. See if you can hook up with someone who is a few sizes ahead of you to take hand me downs. My sister, LC on this site, had the surgery a year ago. She handed all her pants to me. I didn't buy any until I got to a 16. Saved me a fortune. My suggestions for dcent well made full sized clothes are The Gap, Old Navy and Eddie Bauer. Their clothes are cut well.

I started out at a tight 24 as well, 280 and pear shaped. At 220 I could wear my size 20's. I'm 195 and I can wear a size 16 shorts. Sometimes it depends on who makes the clothes. My size 15W are to big for me at 195 but I can wear my 16 ok. it's all kinda funny how our body works. Best of luck,

I too felt like it took forever to start dropping sizes...of course, at the time of surgery, most of my pants had elastic waists. For me, though once I hit size 20 jeans, the 18's came, and went, quickly - and the 16's aren't far behind! I tried on size 14 hip huggers at Old Navy the other day and they fit perfectly. So, don't despair, just keep on keeping on and soon the 18's will be only a distant memory!

I started at 334(wearing a size 30/32) and I am currently 243. I'm 5'1 and after losing my first 80 lbs. I was able to fit a size 18/20. I know your frustration. I am down 90 lbs and I am in a straight 20 in pant/slacks and a 16/18 in tops. Hang in there, your change is coming.

Cat, I started in a 24W and now wear a 10 junior! Yes, you'll get into the 18 and bypass it! Hang in there - exercise is the key! Susan Kane

You will.. you will.. I know that I couldn't begin to fathom wearing an 18 -- I was bursting from size 32 things.. I was really more like a 34.. when I had surgery.. and now.. well, just today, I think I got the last of the 20's from my closet.. because I'm wearing a few 16s...soon.. you'll be wearing things that are 18/20.. then .. all of a sudden a few 16s will fit... <br>do this tomorrow -- go buy a pair of stretch jeans in an 18.. keep trying them on.. you'll get in them in no time at all! Good luck!
