Question:
Can any type of cream, aloe, etc. to help with scars?

I don't know for sure if it helped or not, but I used a combination of aloe
and vitamin E creams on my lap scars for about the first four months after
surgery. At six months out, my scars are minimal and fading all the time.

I am 5 1/2 months out. I used Mederma & then I switched to Vitamin E
OIL. My staple marks are gone & my 2 1/2 inch incision is flat, faded
& looks great. I believe I may have some good info. for you on my

I used cocoa butter with aloe or vitamin e and it faded the scars very
nicely they are hardly noticeable.

I found Mederma to smell bad. It is made from onion extract. I had to stop
using it because I could smell it all day long.

hi i am sort of going to answer for you i just had to back surgeries cut at
the same spot both times so my scar was thick and bumpy, i use coco butter
and vit e my physical therapist said merderai works pretty good but i did
not try it. She also told me to massage the edges two times a day it
breaks up the scar tissue and helps flatten the insicion scar i would like
to report that two months after the last surgery i have a flat incision
scar and it was really thick and bumpy, i hope this helps i will be doing
the same thing when i have my wls. Hugs Sue

If it is keloid, red, ropey, might pull, burn & itch, then I don't know
of anything. I had mine injected at the dermatologist and it makes it lie
down flat. Most of my scar laid down right away, but one lil inch INSISTS
on having more shots. Oh boy. I used Scargo to fade the scars. One bottle
lasted me thru all my plastics AND my revision. LOL! Mederma made the scar
peel & hurt.

Hi Lisa: A plastic surgeon told me to get mederma. It didn't work for me
for the short time I used it. I discontinued it because it hurt me too.
Kind of a burning sensation if I remember right. It was five years ago. I
do remember it was pretty dang expensive on top of not working for me.
I've since read that it's more the rubbing that helps break down the
bumping up of scar tissue and not so much what you're rubbing on it. Wish
the plastic surgeon had mentioned that. I'd try something like you
mentioned, cooca butter with aloe and/or e or maybe try the scargo. If you
can get a free sample of mederma then try that. Otherwise I'd say skip it.

HI Lisa,
I use Mederma and it works really well and I dont even use it as much as it
says too. It's kind of expensive, but my scar is a very light pink now and
the bottom 1/2" by my belly button is gone!

My pharmacist recommended the store brand of Mederma. The Walgreens brand
is twice as large for less money, called "Scar Relief Gel" I am
almost two months post-op & I think it is working great. You can't
hardly see some of my staple scars/marks anymore. Good Luck!

Mederna works very well, although it smells terrible. I used it for my lap
gallbladder scars (I'm still preop for RNY) that I had 2 months ago, and
you can hardly see the staple marks or incision scars.

Hi :)
I have had more than one surgeon tell me that it's not as much what you use
on a scar, but the act of rubbing and massaging it that helps it fade and
flatten. Mederma is SO expensive and I did use it, but I like Shea Butter
and Emu Oil better, they are less expensive and they smell much better.
They don't flake and roll up like Mederma does either. I would just say,
save your money.
