Question:
Will

I have an October date and would like to lose 25 pounds before then however I don't want it to effect fast weight lose once I have my surgery. From past dieting attempts I find the first 20 pounds relatively "easy" to lose because it's mainly water. I would hate to lose weight 25 lbs prior to WLS then only lose 5-10 pounds in the first month post-op. Thanks for your input.    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 23, 2001)

Who cares how you lose it. You lost 25 pounds - TWENTY-FIVE POUNDS. Heck, that's one of the kids from Hanson.

I hadn't really thought about this, and since I don't even go for my intial visit until late September, I have started watching my carbs and avoiding sugar. (pretty much a standard low carb- atkins diet) I just feel like I am at a point that I need to do something NOW, if I don't I could easily go into my first visit with my surgeon 15 lbs more than I weigh now. So I can understand you're wanting to get started now. If you lose 20 or so pounds before surgery and you do end up losing slower at first, try to remind yourself you just lost 20 lbs. and Don't stress about it, at least the surgery will be a great tool to help maintain what you lose. (my problem doesn't seem to be losing it, but keeping it off)
