I've lost 85 pounds so far since my WLS on 11/15/01. Already my arms are flapping in the wind and my upper thighs are rippling. My twin had this done 8 months prior to me and she is having plastic surgery done in Canada the 25th of this month. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover this and she is paying out of pocket for it...there is not way I can afford it so I guess I will have to learn to live with the sagging skin. :(

Yes the skin is loose and I am more body shy now than I was at 350. But thank God for plastic surgery. Start you account for it now (179), because once I am at 149 I am getting this loose skin off. But I would do the surgery again, and I will not have wings. I want them off.

I think that anyone who loses a huge amount of weight in a small amount of time is going to have some hanging skin. Of course a lot of it depends on your age and skin type. I am pre-op (surgery scheduled for 8/5/02) and have been using skin firming body lotion ever since I decided to have this surgery. It might not aviod flabby skin altogether but it can only help to have my skin in the best possible shape before hand. Also remember that it can take 2 years for your skin to stop shrinking!! Good luck!

This is just a suggestion, and may not appeal to all, but I've had those "body" wraps, and have had experience with ab-binders. There is an interesting compromise: Using a skin firming complex, while elastic long leg panty, a full line panty girdle (goes up under boobs) and wrapping your arms in ace bandages. Make sure it is firm enough to be effective, but not so tight as to cut off the circulation. Wear this while you sleep every night for a week, see if you notice the difference. I don't know if it works really well for me because I'm young and have never beaten up my skin (sun burns or anything), or if it's just really effective, but when I've lost weight in the past, it's always helped alot, I figure if I do it the whole way along (with my husbands help of course) as I lose weight, and get professional body wraps done every couple weeks (body wraps plus has a deal for 30 wraps for $300 -- nothing compared to the cost of the surgery) that maybe I can avoid plastic surgery, and encourage my skin back to where it should be.
