Hello, How about your family history? Anyone with heart problems, diabetes, high cholesteral, or stroke? I think that would help. Good Luck

I find it hard to believe that with a bmi of 44 that you don't have health issues. You just may not be aware of them. I wasn't until I started really looking at it and discussed it with my PCP. Turned out I had high blood pressure. Who'd have known - I didn't! Do you have incontinence? Does your weight interfere with your sexual relations? Do you have hygene issues? These can all help in your defense of needing the surgery! You say you have back pain. Ever seen a chiropractor? Mine wrote a great letter detailing how my heavy stomach was pulling on my lordatic curve and damaging my back. If your tired all the time, maybe you have apnea? Ever been tested for it? Do you snore very loud? Another potential sign of apnea. Put on your thinking cap and really look at what's different between you (your health) and skinny people you know. Bet you can come up with a whole list! Good luck!

Check to see about your family history. Also all of the reasons you have put in your question are valid. The back pain, etc. I do agree with you though. It is hard to find things to put as comorbids. And I disagree with the last poster. I have a BMI of 52 and I don't have sleep apnea, or high blood pressure, and no trouble with hygene at all. I go to the dr every 3 months to check my thyroid and the Dr always says I am healthier then most tiny people he treats. But those things may come in time if the weight is not treated, you just never know what is going to be dealt to you. Anyways, speak more about your back and leg pain. And how you get out of breath easily. And look into the family history. You should get checked for Sleep Apena....but not all people have the same things wrong with them if their BMI's are high!

Honey...these were all HUGE reasons for me to have surgery. Have you seen your doctor yet? Has he done tests? Had a sleep study? Blood work? These are all things that could be effecting your health. If he has and nothing is really wrong, just what you've listed is enough to impair your life...and being MO in and of itself is deadly. Look at the news...people are trying to get McDonald's to put "This will make you fat" warnings on their food. No insurance company can deny that MO isn't deadly all by itself.

What you need to do is QUANTIFY your problems. For instance, you get out of breath - how many steps can you climb before you have to stop to catch your breath? How far can you walk ? (One block? Two?) When you walk that far, do your legs begin to ache? Does walking that far cause your back to hurt? How long can you sit before you legs "go to sleep"? Like the others mentioned - what about your family history? Is obesity in your family (blood related family -like your mom, dad, siblings, etc.)? Diabetes? High blood pressure? Heart disease? If so, YOU have the potential to develope those diseases. (And it costs $$$ to treat those diseases!) Hot flashes are probably not related to your obesity. Hope this helps!
