Question:
ANYONE HAVE SURGERY AT VISTA MEDICAL , PASADENA,TX?
MY SURGERY IS TUES THE 18TH, I AM SOOO NERVOUS, CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT TO EXPECT? WHEN I GET THERE AT 5 AM WHAT DO THEY DO NEXT? — WENDY W. (posted on November 15, 2003)

<b>For me, I went to the front desk to sign in, I was sent to the
right floor, I was put in a room along with my family. There the nurse in
charge went over the precedures with us. and I was asked to change into my
gown. and while waiting a lady came in to take blood again. and another
person came to put in my IV. then the anesthesis man came in to go over
everything once again. and ask if I had any questions. There was a waiting
period, were I guess I just was waiting my turn. and finally I was wheeled
to the operation room, while my family was ushered to the waiting room. I
was told to slide onto the table, which is metal and cold. The room is cold
because it has to be at a certain temp to kill the germs. anyhow I slid
over onto the table and the nurse was preparing me by checking my IV plus
getting me positioned on the table. At the same time the anesthesia man was
talking to me and at the same time working on putting on my mask. My
anesthesis man was joking with me to make me feel at ease. and before I
knew it I was in la la land, and woke up all done. I was now on the losing
side, This was 12/6/02, 11 months ago I was 400 lbs pre-op, today I am 248
lbs and looking forward to reaching my goal.</b>

I had my surgery 11-3-03. I arrived at the hospital at 5am, and was
directed to the nurse station. I told the nurse at the desk who I was. She
then told me what room to go in. A nurse came in for blood and urine, which
I had already went to the bathroom in the waiting area of the hospital. So
don't go the the bathroomuntil to check in. Then the spirometer tech came
in and showed me how to breathe in the spirometer. The anesthesia doc came
in to talk and see if I had any questions. The nurse put in an iv. The
staff was all so kind. My surgery was not until 10am. Two other people were
ahead of me, but at about 10:10am. A staff of people came in and said Okay
it's time. My husband then kissed me goodbye and was told to go the waiting
area,that I would be out in about 2.5 hours. I was taken to this cold room,
and the nurse adjusted these leg muscle devices on my calves to keep blood
circulating and to prevent blood clots. Oh I forgot, I was given a blood
thinning shot in my stomach. You will get those alot. They don't hurt a
bit, I guess because of the fat in that area. Then the anesthesiologist
came in and joked about giving me margaritas in my iv and the room started
to get dreamy and the next thing I remember, I was out of surgery. My
entire family was waiting. I had to transfer from the recovery be to the
recliner(ouch!), which I slept in my entire hospital stay. I felt drugged
and really wasnt functioning well with my family. Maybe a head nod or so
was all I remembered. I had to get up and walk approx. 8 hours later every
2 hours for the rest of my stay. I mean all night , no sleep. I am happy
that they did make me walk, even though at the time I wasn't. I am 12 days
post op and feel great. I have been off pain meds for about 4 days now. I
had my 1st post op visit on the 13th and had lost 15(lbs).I am alos on soft
solids now and have had no complications. If you would like more info you

Hi Wendy - I had lap RNY on 11/11 at Vista. The entire staff was fabulous.
They truly make you feel like you are the only patient in the hospital. I
truly felt cared for. Yes, you do have to get up every two hours around the
clock but that is what makes us better. Best of Luck!

I had my surgery at Vista with Dr. Jay on 5/6/03. The staff was great. My
experience was pretty much the same as the previous posters.
