Question:
Anyone else have problems with alcohol after they drink

I had my surgery over 7 years ago. About five years ago, I started to have an alcohol problem. I am learning that has become a common problem with people who have had weight loss surgery. Is there anyone out there who has experienced this problem? If so, would you be willing to give me your email address so that I can get more information on how to deal with this problem? I have been going to AA, but I still have relapse problems. Thanks!    — thewhiteorchid (posted on October 10, 2010)

Addiction is not more or less prevailent(sp) with us but rather liver failure secondary to alcohol consumption might be. I was advised by my RNY surgeon that less is more. I brought in my glassware to include shot glasses. He showed me that the shotglass was the way to go and not till after my 1 year anniversary.....So now on rare occasions I induldge in a shotglass of lite beer or wine. No more hard liquor. I should note that I am a recovering drug addict so I do know what true addiction is. The day I began my recovery I was 96 pounds (1983) and when I began my RNY journey I had grown into a 253 pound sober person (2009) AA is definately the way to go....and I am proud of your bravery and strength to not only admit you had this disease but also to seek out recovery. Hope this helped....

Even replasers can make it in AA, it is the best way to go, I think, when you have an alcohol problem. I too, am a friend of Bill Wilson. Just keep going to meetings (even daily, if you need to), get and call your sponser, work the steps!!! Don't give up!!! YOU can BEAT this. Jane
