Every insurance company is different, but I think you will be fine on the
height/weight qualification. You should call your insurance company and
find out what criteria they use. If they the criteria of a BMI over 40,
you do qualify with a BMI of 41. If they use the 100 pounds overweight,
you will need to find out what tables they use. There are a few different
tables out there. A common one is the Met Life table, which you can view

If you have a small or medium frame, you would also qualify under this

I think you will qualify. I was 5'6" and weighed 258 lbs., so that
puts us at about the same bmi/ I was able to get ins. coverage w/no
problem, although we are considered lightweights, we still qualify, but on
the other hand, remember that we "lightweights" do no lose as
fast, so don't get discouraged. I had surgery on 9/27/01/ I have lost 95
lbs so far, but, I only have 10 more lbs to go!! I wish you the best!

At 235 lbs and 5'3" you should qualify for medical necessity. But it
depends not only on your BMI, and if you are atleast 100 lbs over your
ideal body weight, but also your insurance qualifications. For example,
some insurance companies require a documentation of a medically supervised
diets for six, nine, or twelve months. Call your insurance company and
ask. But be sure to write down names, extentions, time and date you call,
everything they tell you - Even if you have to record it. Best wishes on
