Question:
Has anyone having WLS been required to have nails removed before sugery?

Has anyone having WLS ever been asked to have their gel nails or silk nails ("wraps") removed prior to having your surgery? How many weeks or so before the actual surgery?    — yourdivaness (posted on April 11, 2002)

You will need to remove your polish, but if nails are clear you should not have to remove acrylic nails. I did not have to remove my nails. This is for the finger test for your oxygen levels.

You don't need to remove your nails. Just make sure you have a light color nail polish on.dark colors like red will not read through the pulse ox. I went to the hospital with a french manicure and didn't have a problem. Good luck!!

Check with your surgeon. I have acrylic nails and I was asked to remove the index finger nail and thumb nail on one hand-I asked if I could just wear clear polish and the surgeon said no, so check first.
