Question:
Can a LAP RNY be revised?

Can a LAP RNY be revised to a Duodenal Switch? How soon after? I'm curious if I should have had a DS or had more bypassed than proximal (100cm).    — yourdivaness (posted on December 27, 2002)

I had a Lap RNY 2-2-2000 and am now scheduled for a revision March 5, 2003...so apparently they can be revised. I'm not losing very much weight and have had months when I gained weight. My surgeon, Dr Schwartz (MPLS MN) did some tests and it turns out the opening at the bottom of my pouch is as big as my pouch so he is going to "revise" it. We just scheduled the surgery but I have to have a phone consultation to get more information.

I don't think RNY can be revised to a DS. I may be wrong. Because of the two different styles of stomach division, RNY would not be able to be changed to DS.

Many RNYs can be revised to DSs, but you would have to find a surgeon skilled in revisions. If you are still pre-op and want to know about revising...why not do the DS in the first place?
