Question:
Does scar tissue form at the staple line?

My surgeon explained that when the stomach is only stapled and not
transected, that the two surfaces that meet are mucous membranes. These do
not form scar tissue and do not heal together-no matter how many rows of
staples that the surgeon uses. The staples eventually work their way out.
When the stomach is transected the pouch is stapled with the outside of the
stomach meeting and then my surgeon also oversews this. Scar tissue does
form when these surfaces meet. Shelley

Shelley, I sent your response to my surgeon and he answered that your
answer was 100% accurate. I was not transected because at the time he did
not do it. Now he does. I may have to have a revision. I wanted
transection all along. Wish I had it. But many people have succeeded
without transection. How do some people stay intact while others disrupt?
I am having endoscopy to see if everything is still intact since my loss is
so slow lately. Thanks for the accurate information!
