Question:
SHOULD MY CYCLE STOP AFTER SURGERY?

I HAD MY SURGERY ON NOVEMBER 30TH & I HAD MY CYCLE 2 DAYS LATER. IT WAS A LITTLE OVER A WEEK EARLY, BUT IT WAS A NORMAL CYCLE. BUT IT'S NOW DECEMBER 27TH & I HAVEN'T HAD ANOTHER CYCLE SINCE. I TOOK AN EPT TODAY, & IT SAID NEGATIVE, BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY INDICATIONS THAT THE CYCLE IS ABOUT TO START. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM?    — Ms Melanie (posted on December 27, 2003)

I had my surgery on 11-10 and I still have not had a period. My dr. said it was normal.

I had just finished my cycle prior to my surgery on 11/19/03. I haven't had another one since, and yes, it is perfectly normal.

Get ready for some wild cycles until your body settles down. Mine just settled down about a month ago and I am 7.5 months post op. Those hormones will make your body do weird things. I bled 24/7 for weeks at a time until just recently.

I had my surgery 11/02 and did not have a period from 07/03-11/03. My doctor said it was normal due to all of the changes my body was going through. I'd just double-check to make sure it isn't any other female problem.

Hi. I'm an OB/Gyn nurse. Whenever our bodies are stressed we often don't ovulate. Our periods usually start 14 days after ovulation. However, when we don't ovulate we can skip periods entirely, bleed every day, or be just generally irregular. Don't worry, use contraception and things are likely to regulate on their own over time.

Prior to my surgery 10/22/03 my GYN told me that after undergoing a gastric bypass I would miss my period some months, not to be alarm, that is would be normal.

I had the same thing happen to me! Your body is under stress from the rapid weightloss, it will start when YOU don't want it too. Just give ur self another 4 weeks or so.

I think it works both ways. I got my period 2 days after surgery that lasted 1 week. Then got it again 1 week later, stopped for 1 week, and again 1 week later. Im 4 1/2 months out now, and it comes every month normally now. I think the shock of surgery messed with it.
