Question:
how do i get the wait off with this problem?

i am 5yrs into my surgery and 2yrs ago i had lost a total of 150bls i say it like this because 2yrs ago i feel down a ladder while working and i was injured quite baddly i tore both rotator cuffs the right hip labreim and i hurt my back i have bad nerve damage in my left leg and cant walk to long because i fall down do to all of this and the personal things it caused i became very depressed and stopped carring about my self and i have no hope i gained 60bls back and i really feel ashamed of myself for giving up so if anyone has any idea of how i can lose some weight im all ears i have cut out the cabs drinking crystallight by the gallons eating as much protien as posible but i dont want to get bord or be on the akins diet either    — LAPOINTE (posted on October 11, 2009)

Sorry to hear of your fall..but you have to work at the weightloss. Time to go back to the begining. You can make your protein as apealing as you want. Try different drinks..if you are able to eat foods..there are many different foods to eat. Beans,peanut butter,cottage cheese,rigotta cheese,protein bars,meats,fish. Some veggies, just no starches. Do you attend a support group? if not find one. Have you spoke with your NUT? Do you take your vitamins? Wish you well.

I am very sorry to hear about your fall and all of the health problems that occurred because of it. I was unable to walk for quite a while before I had surgery and I gained a lot of my weight then. So I truly can understand where you are coming from. I know how it's easier to grab those ready made snacks or drive thru a fast food joint, than it is to have to ask someone for help with the shopping or in food preparation. I felt so alone during that time. But you HAVE to start caring about yourself again. It sounds like you have realized that much already. And you HAVE to fight it, Hon! The longer you just give up on yourself the worse things are going to get. You're made of tougher stuff than that. So FIGHT until you get things back where you want them to be. YOU ARE WORTH IT!!! What works for me is to keep changing my routine as far as exercise goes and as far as the foods I eat. When you go shopping, go alone....take your time reading the labels and look at finding new things to eat that are allowed on your health plan as a challenge. It can be kinda fun, actually. I know with your health problems it has to be hard to find things to do. But, again...don't give up....do SOMETHING. One suggestion is the stretchy exercise bands like they use in physical therapy. You can vary the exercises you do tremendously with those. Even when lying in bed....you can do leg lifts and such. Just do what you can...as much as you can...and realize that every thing that you do is going to take you that much closer to being healthy and active again. Truly...I know how you feel. I have lupus and it causes me to often be fatigued and I have had to have both of my knees replaced because of it. I feel like I have been thrown into the bottom of a very deep and dark well and have had to claw my way back out of it. But I'm here to tell you that IT IS POSSIBLE to get your life back. Also sorry to hear of your accident. If you can swim your physician can write and order for your insurance company justifying you to have fully paid water aerobics. They look easy BUT very strenuous to be sure and it will help you lose weight also. The other good side is the benefits to all of your injured parts. It is completely non-impact and you do not even need to know how to swim. They have bouyency tubes to keep you afloat !!!!! Good luck

Hi... I have severe arthritis in my lumbar spine, along with spinal stenosis (a narrowing of the spinal column, that is causing compression of my spinal cord and the nerves that go to the legs, more my left leg than the right). Before surgery this past March, I was only able to exercise about 7 minutes at a time...and that was riding the stationary bike because walking was too painful. After surgery, I kept trying to build up the time until I injured myself further and then couldn't do ANYTHING. And then I stopped losing weight (I had a stricture at the time, and that didn't help things). I went into my surgeon's office at my six week checkup, sobbing with pain and frustration. He was so concerned that #1) he made arrangements to have the stricture fixed, and then 2) he gave me the name of a neurological surgeon colleague, and told me to get in and see her right away. Well, she took a look at my films and my MRI and made a detailed plan of action for me. First off, an epidural pain shot. If that worked, then physical therapy specifically aimed at strengthening my core and my lumbar spine. Then, we would wait 6 months to see how the weight loss affected the pain levels. With the first epidural I got, I was pain-free within 24 hours. I was able to go the gym with my daughter for the first time and exercise without pain. Slowly, I've built up my exercise tolerance until now, I'm at the gym for over 3 hours. I do half an hour on the treadmill at 3 mph, I do half an hour on the stationary bike at 11 mph, I do 15 minutes on the elliptical, I do about half and hour to forty-five minutes worth of physical therapy exercises, another half hour of weight training, and then I swim for 20 minutes doing the breast stroke. And after the first epidural, the weight started to come off again because I could be active and raise my metabolism rate. Maybe you need to look into having an epidural, or other type of pain control so that you can get out from underneath the depression that is causing you to eat. It sure helped me. Good luck to you.

THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO ANSWER MY QUESTION I WILL GET BACK ON TRACK I HAVE STARTED WITH THE LIQUIDS THIS MORNING IM GOING TO GOTO SIGN UP WITH THE TOWNHALL TO USE THE TOWN POOL THAT IS A GREAT IDEA AND IT WILL BE A GREAT FAMILY ACTIVITY FOR ME AND THE KIDS TO DO TOGETHER. I HAD 3 SHOTS IN MY BACK AND THEY DIDNT WORK FOR ME ALONG WITH A LOT OF OTHER PAIN MEDS I AM TRING TO GET THEM TO TAKE ME OFF THE MEDS AND TRY A ELETRIC STIMULATOR MY PAIN MANAGMENT DR THINKS ITS THE WAY TO GO I FOUND A SUPPORT GROUP AND IM GOING EVERY 4TH THUR OF THE MONTH STARTING THIS MONTH AGAIN THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH IT HELPS MORE THAN YOU KNOW JUST TYPIING ON THIS WEB SITE GOT ME FEELING ALMOST AS EXCITED AS I WAS BERFORE I HAD THE BYPASS I COULD TELL THIS IS WORKING I HAVENT BEEN IN THIS PLASE IN A LONG TIME

I'm so sorry that you fell and were hurt so severely. I have been through a very rough emotional time in the past myself. I was hospitalized twice, have been on antidepression medication for 13 years, and have been seeing a counselor for the same length of time. I suffered for 2 years with complete hopelessness. Like you, I let my weight pile on. It took a while, and great counseling from my Pastor and psychologist, but I gradually regained my hope and the pain began to heal. Life is too short, and we are too important, to continue to live a life less than full of joy and being a blessing to those around us. God made each of us for a specific purpose. He loves us very much. Sometimes we loose site of His love and forget whose we are (we are his beloved). I'm 5 years post-op with the Lap-Band. I've lost 110 pounds and am keeping it off. Even though I could probably stop seeing my counselor, I continue to see her just to make sure I stay on track. Life is always throwing curves at you, and it is nice to have someone whose opinion you respect to talk to (esp. one who you know will not share what you say with anyone else). I would highly recommend seeing a Christian Psychologist or talking with your Pastor. Also, have you seen a physical therapist for your problems? A good Physical Therapist can help you design a home exercise program that is tailored just for you. I encourage you to use that resource as well. I wish you all of the best. Love yourself enough to get back on the horse, and get that weight back off. You have the tools from your surgery to loose and maintain your weight.
