Nope, they sure do not. In fact, BCBS of Tx is notoriously anti-wls with their iron-clad exclusions. I do know that Texas has the Texas Rehabilitation Commission which will pay for surgery if you meet their criteria because, regardless of the fact that the state doesn't recognize obesity as a disability, it is still recognized as a disability by federal agencies.

I live in OK, but have BC/BS of Texas through my husband's employer. I applied for the DS, and was denied because they needed more information, but at the same time, they said they would approve the RNY is we would submit a claim. I really feel the BPD/DS is the superior surgery. Haven't decided what I'm going to do yet, but at least I am assured of getting the RNY. Marca

I have BCBSofTX and my policy has a Exclusions "regarding anything for reduction of obesity or weight, including wls, even if the Participant has other health conditions which might helped by the reduction of obesity or weight". BCBS advised my employer could write a letter of waiver on the wls, since they where the one who included it. You and hubby write a letter requesting a waiver to his employer and ask PCP to write a letter of medical necessity to hubby's employers. Ask hubby to personal delv letters to human resource dept at his work.
