Question:
Need info re: EGD and stoma-tightening procedure

I'm 2 yrs post lap RNY; got down from 290# to 205# in the first 10 months, plateau'ed for about 8 months because I cut back on exercise and wasn't controlling what I ate. I never dump. Then in the past 6 months I've started gaining (15#), but I figured it was because I had quit working out at all and was in even worse control of my eating. Went in for 2-yr check w/ my surgeon figuring he'd give me the "see the nutritionist, get back to exercising" speech, which he did - but he also wants to do the procedure where they inject the stoma to cause it to scar and tighten up. I know the procedure isn't a huge deal, not painful, etc. and I understand how it could possibly help someone who has a loose stoma, but I don't know that I do. I get full quickly on very dense foods - I don't think I can eat more than 2/3c of beef or chicken - but in an hour I'll feel hungry again. I follow the rules re: drinking before/during/after meals. I'd like to hear from someone who's had this done -- did it help? Any unexpected problems? Any regrets? Any problems with insurance covering it? Any info would be appreciated.    — Jules B. I had that done back in April or May of 04. It does work but I am going back in to have it done a 2nd time because it takes a few times for it to hold 100% (can't think of a better way to word it). As for the idea that it doesn't hurt - it does. I felt as though Mike Tyson went 3 rounds on my stomach...I was very sore and uncomfortable but pain meds helped. Insurance covered it no problem. Any other questions please feel free to email me or read my experience on my profile.

Hello well I have not had to have the procedure but I am beginning to wonder if maybe that is my problem but the difference between you and I is that I can consume more and I am only a year out I wish you the best of luck

I am going in next week to consult with my WLS doc about doing an EGD to see how far my pouch has stretched. I plataued at 9 months out...not sure if it was bc of the depo-provera shot or what but i cant lose anymore and i am at 181...from 310. I will ask him about this procedure to see if i can get this done to help me get to goal.
