Question:
I had my gallbladder removed 4 months ago now I have lower back pain.

I have terrible back pain it came on with my period so first I thought it was menstral. But, I don't normally have any back problems. I'm 4 years recovered I go up and down 20 pounds but I'm more puffy then normal for me. I was forgetting my vitamins off and on. Could it have something to do with the gallbladder gone?    — ANNAJEAN (posted on April 17, 2007)

Hi Anna, thanks for writing. First, you need to be in touch with your surgeon. If you are having pain, it could be associated with your wls, or not, but please get with them right away. I would tend to think that your gallbladder had nothing to do with it, but check into it. Lower back pain could be from your female organs for some reason from an injury or slipped disc, many different non related things. Let me also beg you to please take your vitamins and calcium seriously. I just wrote a woman a few days ago who stopped taking her vitamins and calcium and is in constant pain now, most likely because of the neglect. You need to have a vitamin and calcium panel run to see if you are within normal ranges, and please take these daily. It is easy to believe that you don't need them because we eat almost a regular but small amount of food, the problem is that it creeps up on you and the damage cannot be reversed once it is done. Please don't fool around with your health, see your surgeon right away and take those pesky pills. You didn't come this far to lose your health to not taking your viatmins. Take care, Patricia P.

I agree, but I think you should also see your PCP, sometimes pain like that is a sign of stones in your bile ducts that are left behind after your gallbladder is removed, I am a nurse and this is very common and sometimes happens years after your gallbladder is removed, blood work (to check your liver and pancreas function) or an ultra sound should be able to tell if this is what it is, it also causes pains in your sides, stomach area and even your chest sometimes, please check it out and do not dismiss it, it is treatable. Best of luck to you.
