Question:
How long should it take for your PCP to write his letter?

I met my surgeon on Monday and saw my PCP Tuesday. I'm trying to move everything as fast as possible. I've been told the insurance (BCBS of Michigan) only needs the letters from the surgeon, PCP and my psych eval. I'm going tomorrow for that. The people who work at my Dr. office are slow and stupid... is this something I should keep calling and bugging them for or just wait hoping they do it soon?    — megan23 (posted on April 10, 2008)

I got my letter from my dr in a very short time. They actually faxed it over to the surgeon. I would keep calling them. They will get sick of hearing from you and get it done.

I actually ended writing the letter myself and scheduling some time with my PCP to go over it. He signed it right away. He would never have done it on his own.

I wrote the letter for the Doctor, got his stationary and printed it and took it back for his signature as his office was very overworked. I showed him the letter first to make sure he agreed, and offered to print it for him with his changes if his office was overworked. He loved the Idea and that solved the problem of the stupid people in his office. I can send you a copy of a letter if you send me your email address. Bill Mills

Give them a couple of days and then keep calling his office. The squeaky wheel gets the grease! (good Oklahoma saying!)

It only took my doctor two days to write the letter. I went in on Monday and he was off Tuesday and it was done Wednesday. My WLS surgeon is a Baylor doctor and all is on a computer system and that went really well. Good Luck

Hi, yes I would keep calling them. That was the part that took the longest in my process. Each ins. co. wants different amounts of info. Check out my profile I tell the story from seminar date to approval. It was amazing. Keep on bugging every leg of the proccess. Good luck. Michele

Sounds to me like everything is going quite fast. I'm from Michigan and have BCBS. They are correct in the insurance requirements. I consulted for the surgery on January 17th and had the surgery in Maech 17th. So I say you're looking pretty good. Good luck with everything.
