Question:
so, what has to apply in order to get approval for a tummy tuck and arm tuck?

Most people I know that have had it done say most insurance will pay for tummy tuck from belly button down only, and will not cover any other parts of body. Arms are about $4,000 dollars each or more. Good luck. JoAnn

Most insurance companies have to be convinced there is a medical need for the surgery. I have yeast that grows wherever skin touches skin, I get these horrid rashes that itch and get inflammed and then peel the first layer of skin and then starts all over again. That would be an example of a medical necessity. Also, I have degenerative disk disease, and a tummy tuck could relieve stress on my lower back.

Both procedures are considered "cosmetic" surgery and it is very unusual for insurance to cover them. If you have excessive skin from WLS that is causing skin irritation it might be an exception. Your doc would have to write a letter verifying that. Good luck!

To be honest, I am not really sure. I am 1 1/2 years post op and, of course have the "apron" and "bat wings" but my legs are 90% okay. However, I am 64 1/2 years old and am not looking at those surgeries as I look 100% better than I did with all the extra weight. However, I was told by 2 people - one of them being another kind of doctor - that if I was ever interested in having that kind of surgery to check into donating your extra skin to the place that handles burn victims. There might be a possibility if going that road that those places may help with cost. I am not positive of this because I have not looked into it but you may want to ask your surgeon or dig into the internet for info. Good luck!

My insurance will only cover tummy tuck if you has skin/yeast infections. It won't cover any other excessive skin removal.
