I was told by my nut. that any and all carbonated beverages are to be avoided at all costs, as it is the carbonation that stretches the pouch, and with the lap band, stretching could cause erosion and/or slippage. I wouldn't do it. Take care of yourself and good luck!

Unless you lose the ability to pass gas, carbonation can't stretch anything-- it has a funny habit of making a hasty exit when it builds up. The problem with beer is that, even some light beers, can have lots of carbs, lots of calories and reduce our inhibitions enough so that we graze on bar snacks-- but, read your labels and stay away from the honey-roasted peanuts and goldfish crackers and a light beer probably won't hurt you (just don't drive after having your beer because you won't be certain how it will effect you).

Hi go out once in a while and do not try beer just because of the carbonation. But I'll have either red wine, smirnoff raw tea, or UV blue (raspberry vodka) and lemonade. They are all very good and no carbonation. I don't drink too often but usually stick to those because there is no carbonation. Just a couple of suggestions. Good luck on your journey!! -Lisa

I say no soda and no alcohol. You are an adult and can make your own choices, but I think both are not good choices for banders or other wls surgeries. We don't need to get back to "normal" functions of life, we are looking for a life change, and that is why we had surgery, no matter the type. The decision is yours and so is the consequence. Take care. Patricia P.

I'd avoid the beer because of the carbonation, but you might try a glass of wine. Pat

some doctors will allow their patient to have a small amount of liquor once in a while. the problem with beer is that it is carbonated so it could cause a very uncomfortable feeling, even pain because there is no room for the bubbles to burst. also the alchohol hits our systems faster because there is not enough digestion diluting the effects.
