Question:

My surgery is monday and I was suppose to do liquid diet Saturday and Sunday and I had lunch today which is Saturday. What should I do? It will be like 1 and 1/2 days of liquid and a Fleets Soda on Sunday. I think i goofed anyone else have this happen?    — STACY T. (posted on September 8, 2002)

It's better to be safe than sorry. If your hospital is anything like ours, they will call you the night before to give you the time to report. At that time, you should let them know that you ate at noon on Saturday by mistake. Let them determine whether this will cause a postponement in your surgery or not.

My doc told me the same. I figured it was a good idea because I wanted my body to be as clean as possible inside.

I did the 2 day bowell prep but did cheat a bit before noon on the first of the 2 days. I would tell them but after the fleet phospho you are clean. I asked about the bowell prep when I saw my surgeon at our support group picnic. He said it helps to give more room for LAP. Tell but dont panic, its doubtful it will cause a delay, but do let us know how this turned ut.

I realize that most people had to prep before surgery. I had to tell you though that in 1999 when I had my original surgery, I only had to be fasting from midnight on. No fleet no nothing. I am not saying that this is right or wrong (although seems everyone else had enimas etc) but what i am saying is that i still had the BPD/DS and had eaten dinner the night before. I really don't think that you will be postponed but tell the doctor just in case. Good luck tomorrow!
