Question:
just found out i need hysterectomy can i still have wls.

you will need to talk to your doctor. In most cases they will NOT allow
any type of surgery unless it is a do or die emergency. It takes a min of
6 months to heal from most surgeries. your body can not handle it. Only
your surgeron can answer this question

YEP- here is what I would do, and have suggested to patients over the
years, and myself have done when asked - get your WLS sugeon and your
oB-gyn together to talk. Both procedures can be performed at the same time,
if the other (WHICHever doc isnt the primary during the initial surgery)
can be in the OR ready to do his/her surgery. Otherwise there will be a
wait- if you need the hyster for cancer reasons, then have it first, is my
suggestion. Its up to the 3 of you, both surgeons and yourself to make
this transition as smooth as you possibly can. As for the 2 biggie
surgeries, they can be done on the same day if everyone is on the same

Cindi had a good answer -- if you can't get both surgeries at the same
time. Get the WLS first as your lower weight will make healing from the
hysterectomy quicker and easier. However, if the hysterectomy is critical
(cancer or excessive bleeding) you need that first.

A few years ago I had the LAP gallbladder and Rotor Cuff surgery together!
I was fortunate enough to get both of my surgeons together at the same
surgery!
However I had a hysterectomy when I was 31 years old. That knocked the snot
out of me. I was extremely tired out for four months before I recovered. I
don't know if that is normal or not. As far as WLS... mine was open and
also took alot out of me. I'm guessing if wls was LAP it would'nt have been
as hard on my body. Anyway, I'm guessing that both of "THESE"
surgeries together might be alittle to tough on your body.
I'd talk it over with your surgeons to make sure it won't be too
overwhelming. These are very serious surgeries. But yes, two can be done at
once. But can these two??? Only your surgeons can determine that. Best of

I was scheduled for WLS in 1999, when I found out that I had Endometrial
Cancer and needed a complete hysterectomy. Of course, I put the WLS on
hold. I had they hysterectomy and gave myself 4 months to heal and at that
time, went ahead with the WLS. It is a lot for your body to withstand.
Take your time and dont push it. If you've come this far, you need to make
good informed decisions regarding this. We're talking about your health,

My surgeon, Dr. Oh (www.OhToBeThin.com) has been known to do a hys at the
same time as bypass.
He just took my gallbladder and rt. ovary at the same time as tummy tuck.
And he is finest kind of surgeon. :o)
