Question:
I AM PREGNANT. DUE IN DECEMBER2006. HOW SOON AFTER CAN I HAVE EITHER PROCEDURE?

First of all -- Congratulations! I wish you the best with your pregnancy and delivery. It's an exciting time for you. Personally, if I were in your shoes, I'd wait a while after delivery, and not make any definate plans. Are you going to nurse? For how long? Even if you don't plan on nursing your baby (and I would certainly encourage it for a while) your body goes through so many hormonal and chemical changes, it would probably take 6 months or so to get back your body back to "normal". You can e-mail or phone your surgeon and ask their opinion.

Congrats...I'm sure each surgeon is different, but I will share with you my personal experience. I gave birth by c-section on 8/31/05 and had RNY on 1/19/06, so that was about 4 months later. Although, for me, I did not breast feed. So you may want to consider waiting longer if you plan to breastfeed, which I have to admit is the best milk for the little one.

That is something you should discuss with a bariatric surgeon, but practicality says you probably do not want to have major elective surgery while the baby is very young, just because you need to take care of the baby. You will be tired and sore for some time after the operation. If you nurse the baby, that might also play a role in timing.
