Question:
Five year medical

After completing all other requirements including medical nec letter. I am having such a difficult time in obtaining my health records from (2) previous doctors as BCBS request the five year (at least) weigh in history. 1 of the 2 doctors states they ni longer practice and records are in storage "somewhere". The other gave me a number to call and i never get an answer or return call. I went in person but there is somone specific I must speak to as per previous doctors office. This is a nightmare and aggravation for these five year records. Can anyone shed some light on this issue. Any suggestions? I feel exhausted after months of trying to get this done.    — crystal220 (posted on May 5, 2009)

Have you ever done Weight Watchers or another program where you had to weigh-in? If so, you can use those records to prove your weight.

I have those records which covers two years in total. That still leaves me with remaining three years of the 5 they ask for. The physicians are simply uncooperative in this matter. It's just frustrating :(

I have BCBS of IL and they require the 5 year weight history also. I didn't have this because I hadn't been to the doctor in over 5 years. I was worried, but they sent in for approval without this info and I still got approved within a week. I was shocked. I have also heard of people sending in pictures as proof of their weight for 5 years. If they go ahead and submit for approval you can always call your insurance company and talk to someone and explain the situation and they could give you advice on what you should do. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!

I too had the same issue with the five year weight history. I wrote an appealing letter explaining the need for the surgery and why I hadn't been to the doctor for a consecutive five years. I also sent pictures for the last eight years documenting my weight on each one and the year. I had family and friends write letters for me stating how long they knew me and how they perceive my weight. I was approved in a day. I still think it was because I sent so much info in with my packet, they didnt want to read it all and said we just going to approve her. Don't give up, there is always more than one way to skin a cat. Good luck

Thank you all for your suggestions and great support! I was approved within (2)days after submittal to BCBS and I am set for my surgery date. FYI, we were never able to get the long lost pyhisicans files from my past medical history.
