i would not recommend it; salad is rough and i am 4 yrs out and still can't eat a lot of it. If it's in your diet plan eat the egg, cheese, meat first and forget the lettuce

I had my surgery on 11/17. My program allows it but with caution. I ate my first salad last week, if you could call it that. All it had was fresh baby spinach with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It took care of the craving, and I had no problem at all.

My doctor allowed me to begin eating small amounts at 6 months out (RNY 6/2/09) and I have to make sur ethere is protein in the salad. I can tell you this much.....I LOVED MY FIRST SALAD !!!! It tasted so yummy. I added crushed egg and roasted chicken. Just remember 1 TBLS of salad dressing. Good luck .....

If your clinic says salads are ok, then you may eat them, just remeber that regualr iceburg lettuce has no nutritional value whatsoever, so try to eat salads made with better greens. I don't even bother with them, but was a huge salad eater before surgery. If my husband is having one and I feel the need, I may eat something from his, but I ususally don't. I am so protein oriented, that once I eat my protein , there is little room for salads, I eat veggies tho. I love green beans since surgery! I cannot eat broccoli anymore <sad face> If I make a tuna rollup, I put lettuce there for a pop of juiciness. Experiment, have fun! Find out whats right for you! It makes the adjustment so much easier. I got to goal in about 10 months and have maintianed since..120 lbs lost. Best of luck to you and everyone! hugs n God Bless, Kim

My surgeon cleared me to eat "anything but birthday cake" around 3 mths out. As someone else said, too much salad can cause tummy probs, but my method lets me get all my protein and still satisfy my craving for salad as well. At over a year out from my bypass, my salad still consists of a super-thin layer of leafy greens such as spinach, topped by a my-size serving of low-fat cheese and meat, boiled eggs, or even nuts on top.

I am 5 1/2 months out and eat salad whenever i want it. no problems. iceberg lettuce i put cheese and turkey, and carrots and cucumbers.... everyone is different. it helps break up the boring protein all the time. try one thing at a time, if you tolerate it go for it. burger king has side salads for a dollar and they are perfect size, of course eat your protein first, like i said as long as you can tolerate it go for it. they say dont eat red meat for 6 months, I do 3oz of hamburger on the george with a piece of amer cheese on top.... its like heaven. its very individual... you just have to try a little bit and see what works for you my friend had the same surgery with the same doctor and we tolerate totally different things. Good luck!

I am RNY post op 11/11/09. Had my first salad last week. I tried romaine, tomatoes, carrots, and onions. Ok all was ok until the raw carrots came on the scene. Those can be kind of rough. May omit those for a while. I was told iceberg goes down easier too. So just take it easy! I promise you gas... lots of gas... but oh that salad tasted sooo good!
