Question:
Intense port area pain and left shoulder pain. I am 4 years post op. WHY??

I am about 4 years post op lap band and 1 year post op tummy tuck. For the last 4 months I have had intense pain in and arround my port site about 10 minutes after eating. The pain also goes up to my left shoulder. It is so intense I cant move. Nothing seems to resolve it (walking, muscle relaxer medications, advil,heat/ice) It will last all day untill I have slept. I will wake up fine but the first time I eat it is back. I am sooo tired of the pain. Any Ideas what this could be? Has anyone else felt like this?    — californiacupid (posted on May 20, 2009)

The doctors told me that the pain in my shoulder was from the gas they put into your stomach so they can move around everything they need to when they do the surgery. The port pain is where they go in to do the surgery, I think, so it probably has to do with your surgery too. This pain will go away but it does take some time. The doctors told me the more I could move around the better it was for me. Check with your doctors and let them know you are having problems and they should be able to help you. Hope this helps! Good luck to you!

I realize that you are 4 years post op. I had the band in 2001. 14 monts later I developed an infection which ultimately meant that the band had to be removed. Have you told your doctor about your pain? You need to get it checked out, very soon.

Four years out it is odd. You shold check with your surgeon and make sure everything is still ok.
