Question:
Angel...

I am having my RNY on the 31st of this month, (March). I am wondering if anyone wants to be my angel. And what does one do?    — SPIRIT2002 (posted on March 9, 2010)

Hello! I am 2 weeks post op and doing well. The main thing you want to do is get ready at home, someone to help take care of you, sugar free pop-sicles, water, flavored water etc...I also made sure I had protein powder ready since taking protein is so important and order or buy your vitamins. The only thing I wish I would have had was a recliner, sleeping in the bed was hard for the first week in a half. Now I am doing well sleeping in the bed. If I would have thought of it I would have even rented one from a furniture place for a month LOL. Good Luck and let me know if you have any other specific questions.

Hello, You have many Angels on this site. I found that out 7 years ago come March 19th of this year. That's when I began my journey. I was scared, worried that I wasn't doing the right thing and blaming myself for not taking more control over my health. When I received this message that simply said Fear not, we are with you and I believe in you! I don't know why to this day it gave me so much strength but it did. I lost 187 pounds I gained back 30. I am no longer diabetic the pills I took for my pressure are down to two a day from 6 and I now have freedom to play. I still have relapses but I don't regret my choice. PREPARE, have all the things you need there for you, there is nothing worst then not knowing what you can have and leaving it to others to find out when your not feeling great. I got along great on egg drop soup, protein shakes and fish. I only could really drink water so I never put down that sports bottle for months. If you need to talk, I will be here and I am going to be thinking of you on the 31st. My birthday was the day I had my RNY 3/19 I'll wish for your smooth recovery this year. I felt I started life that day why not begin a new one there as well. your friend Anna

Hi, As everyone said so far you will have lots of angels here. I would love to communicate with you if you would like, either here or on regular email. I had rny on aug 21 2009. Never had to use the morphine pump(dont if you dont have to) nor any pain meds after surgery. surgery was at 8 am on friday and out by 10, woke up in recovery and wanted to get out of the bed, of course they wouldnt let me. but was up and walking (slowly of course) that night. catheter out the next day... couldnt wait to take a sip of water. went home monday afternoon, was out driving with my family on tuesday. Of course tired and sore but no real pain. I am almost 7 months out and 105 pounds down. Have not had dumping, only threw up once and it was my fault..(ate to fast) never had a problem sleeping once i got home, took a little bit of time to sleep on my tummy but no biggie on that. To Prepare.... make sure you have your vitamins lined up, pain meds (just in case)protein... I did isopure, they have different flavors, also non flavored protein powder, you can mix with broth or coffee or tea. The other thing i did was protein shots, its a quick way to get it down, cause I HATED the protein shakes. I am off all meds, no blood pressure, no diabetic and no more cholesterol.... cool huh?
