Read my profile! It lists all the steps I had to take with AETNA for approval. They seem to be picky about the dr supervised diets--have you discussed diet and exercise with your PCP and if you have, was it written in you medical file? Email me privately if you have any more questions!

I have the same insurance as you. The supervised diet was an important addition to helping you get approved. The other thing that I found out during my process was that regardless of the plan type (HMO/PPO) you are now required to submit a letter from your PCP saying that you have weight issues. That is what I was told by Aetna and my doctor's office in May.

hi. I have AETNA PPO and am 22 yrs old. I am on my dad's insurance, if that make's a difference. I never had a doctor supervised diet, but i did have my PCP write a letter "to whom it may concern" saying he recommends that I have this surgery b/c he sees it as a last resort and i have knee problems and heel spurs from being obese, my BMI was 44. I did weight watchers, atkins diet, tons of gym memberships, but never did those prescription diet pills or pcp diets! I was approved in less than 3 weeks after the 1st letter! AETNA was great for me. AFter my surgery a representative called me to see how i was doing and checked to make sure that i had enough pain killers to help with my pain. I am very happy with them!
