Question:
Testing for Dr. Miles in Birmingham

Ive read alot of things about test being performed before surgery. Can anyone who has had surgery with Dr. Miles in Birmingham, Alabama tell me exactly what test are done before you have surgery. I just want to prepare myself.    — PAM M. (posted on November 6, 2002)

Hi Pam. I had surgery with Dr. Miles' partner, Dr. Schmitt. I think alot of the testing depends on the individual's condition and comorbidities. I only had to have bloodwork, xrays, psychiatric evaluation and I had to see an internist to clear me for surgery. I do know that some people have to have sleep studies done, ultrasounds etc. You also have to attend a bariatric nutrition class and a pre-op class. I hope this helps.
