Prior to WLS, I used a c-pap machine for severe sleep apnea, I took medication for both high blood pressure and GERD, and I suffered from chronic plantar fasciitis. I am now completely cured of all :) Barb 4/07/03 235/144/130

Well I was a type 2 Diabetic, I also had High Blood Pressure and Fibromyalgia. I am completely free from the Diabetes and my Blood Pressure has been giving us a time or two but I do not feel bad with it like before. The Fibromyalgia however still hangs in there...if not worse. I am sure in time those too will diminish. I will also add my cholesteral is normal and I think that's pretty good for about 9 weeks out.

As of two months after the surgery, I was free from diabetes type 2, edima, high blood pressure, acid reflux (GERD), and sleep apnea. My asthma has also improved a great deal now and I can exercise again. I walk about 1-2 miles daily and actually enjoy it. For more info, check out my website or email me at [email protected]. Good luck to you on your weight loss journey.

Good morning, for me wls has improved my health greatly. 11 months ago I was taking 13+ pills everyday, also a needle for type II diabetes. I had many co-morbities with my 400 lbs wt, high blood, diabetes, stomach problems, sleep problems, muscle problems, etc, etc. and now today 11 months after, I take only my vitamins and Tums. I am free from pills and I'm not diabetic anymore. It feels great not to have to stick myself with a needle every night. I feel healthier and I feel great. I have more wt to loss but know that I will get to my goal soon. I have loss 163 lbs in 11 months, and I would do this again in a heartbeat.

Has it ever!!! I'm a new person. The old person was weighing 250 pounds day of surgery and on 5 prescribed meds for BP/seeing foot specialist/PCP every 2 weeks. She was wearing size 24's. That was 9 months ago and the new me weighs 142/size 4/6 and no meds! I eat healthy now! I exercise like never before. I have more energy than I know what to do with. lol Although, I only had 115 pounds to loose (light weight)I had the struggles, because of my obesity, as any obese person does. With the help of a good therapist before my decision for gastric bypass and my approval... I was ready mentally before hand. I had demons I had to work on, that surgery would not help. I saw her for 6 months or more, then I attended seminars for the procedure. I was ready to get my life back and boy have I ever! Just had BR 2 weeks ago today. Another hurddle I have crossed and so glad I did. Food no longer controls me...I'm in control! I've been blessed having 2 major surgeries in this last 9 months and neither was painfull to me. No pain/no pain meds, but I have done as my surgeons said to. It has beeen surprising to my Drs about my goals reached thus far, but not to me! This was my last chance to feel healthy again at my age of 54 and no food is worth this great feeling of accomplishment, that I have. I Eat To Live...Not Live To Eat! I wish you the best in your journey. Your so worth it!

Hi! Yes! Yes! Yes! I was 298 (and had been higher) and am now 170 and still losing. My BMI went from 50+ to 30 and I'm now only considered overweight not severly or mobidly obese! Everything is easier. After thanksgiving, I was one of those nuts that was at a Target store at 5:30 am to get a "bonus buy". I was the only lady who ran the enitre length of the store to get to the electronics department first. You know what? when I got there, I could still breathe, and could ask the clerk about the item. That's realy good for me, especially since I have asthma. My blood pressure went from 140/90 to 116/67. Has my health improved? Ohhhhhh yeah! Do I feel incredibly better? Ohhhhh yeah! I am a new person!

I am a realtive newbie post-op, but in the 3 weeks since surgery I have dropped 71 lbs!, can walk up to 4 miles per day, whereas before I was lucky to be able to walk a block, the type 2 diabtes has disappeared! and I haven't taken a single pre-op prescription med yet! Improved? Revolutionized is more like it. Can't wait to get back to my old bicycling and weight lifting routines, but that will have to wait another 3 weeks according to the doc.

Oh, my, where do I start? Within two weeks of the surgery, I had no signs of diabetes, and was off all medication for it. Two months later, I was off all high blood pressure meds, and have a BP reading that the American Heart Association is jealous of! My feet and ankles don't hurt any more. My knees rarely hurt. My back sometimes hurts, but not as badly, and in a different way (I think it's from the excess skin I'm carrying around on my abdomen)--it's not so debilitating that I have to sit after walking or standing. I walk two miles three days a week, do a medium-level circuit training three times a week, a heavy-duty weight training once a week, and ride a stationary bike 45 minutes almost every evening. Not only can I maintain that level of physical activity, it doesn't hurt to do it. I can walk up several flights of stairs without huffing and puffing. I can carry laundry and groceries without feeling like my heart is going to explode. I can wear high heels all day without hurting my feet and Achilles tendon. I can shop all day without having to rest. I CAN RUN! (I don't like to, but I can!) And these are just the things that come off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more.

I actually have a life now. I thought staying home all the time and eating was a life. Now I exercise, work hard, see friends more, go out at night, starting to date, etc. This has all imorived my mental heath 100%. Physically it is just your typical stuff. Was too obese to even exercise, so I was in poor cardiovascular health. Nothing hurts anymore.

Where do I begin, I no longer take any of the 3 meds for Diabetes, all syptoms are gone after 5 days post-op, down to 1 anti-depressants from 3, and self esteem is fabulous. No more acid reflux off that 1 pill. No more sleep apnea, sleeping all night thru. No pain in knees wanting to collapse when I stand up or walk, climbing stairs is much better. I feel rested and energetic. I now take 1 pill a day, plus vitamins. I am 9 weeks out and have lost 57 pounds and feel great. Patricia RNY 9-30-03 314/257/?
