Question:
I had surgery Friday May 29th

And I feel like this recovery has been brutal. I am not sure I would of done it knowing how much pain I would be in. Yesterday was my 1st full day out of surgery and I cried each time I got in and out of bed. Today seems to be better...is the worst behind me? Thanks!    — MyOrchids (posted on May 31, 2009)

Heather, It will get better every day. The more you walk the better you will feel. I didn't cry and I felt my pain was more soreness but the more I walked the better it felt you just have to work it out. But I will be honest I questioned why I did this to myself the firt week. But I am so glad I did it. And I am a month post op so it does get alot better and you will be happy you did it especially when the weight starts coming off and you see the inches coming off.......welcome to the losers bench.

Everyone wakes up from surgery with the same question--"Why did I do this to myself" and then 5 days later, you are feeling so much better than you have felt in years. The weight just falls off the first 3 weeks. You will hit a plateau at 3 or 4th week for about 10 days. Do not panic there either. Keep walking even if you just walk round the house. Try really hard to get your water in and get your protein as close to at least 60 and you will be great. Welcome to the losing side!

YES!!! i must say the worst is over!!! i had RNY on 4/27 and i thought i was DYING. the day after surgery i was throwing up little chunks of blood and having bloody diarrhea (most likely because of the opaque dye that they used to check the pouch). once i went home (on 4/29 in the afternoon) i felt a LITTLE better-- but i basically just took my vicodin and slept for 2 days. after that i started to feel well enough to putter around the house and not feel like complete crap. a month and 4 days out i feel TOTALLY fine!!!! :)

Wow...I must be a real throw-back. I had virtually NO pain, and was up walking the hallways within two hours of returning to my room. In fact, the next day, I was able to take a shower. The only problem I had was soreness turning over in bed, and I did strain a muscle that made it hard for me to take a deep breath for a few days. But, I had surgery on Monday afternoon, and by Wednesday morning I was released to go home, and on the way home, we stopped at the pharmacy to pick up some more dressings for my incision sites. I've got to admit though, that the self-medicating morphine pump I had for the first 36 hours was a nice plus, and probably had a lot to do with my feeling so well. Don't worry, things will get better fast.... just keep walking, it's the fastest way to work out the kinks and feel stronger. Good luck to you!

My surgery was 5/20. YOU WILL FEEL BETTER EACH DAY. I bet by the time you are reading this .... you are already feeling better than the day you posted your message. Hang in there. The worst is behind you. I'm heading back to work today and feeling great!

the worst is behind you. Congrats on the surgery and I will pray you will heal quickly. In a few short weeks you will be so happy you did this. Once you start to see the changes and feel better, you will be thrilled. A lil advice...don't rush to lose weight or to eat "normal" You will eventually get back to eating real foods, and take this time to re educate yourself on what fuels the body. You aren't eating for pleasure any more and who wants to? thats what got us into the plus sizes. The weight comes off...everyone loses at different rates. i was a slow loser in the beginning and found that about 5-6 months I lost quicker. I have very little hanging skin and I attribute that to slow losing and exercise. Best of luck to you and God Bless! hugs,Kim

I have to say I had really good drugs and felt ok. They made sure I wad not in pain. It took about three weeks of pain med for basic soreness. I went camping at two weeks and was fine.

I don't really know what to say cause I had my surgery on May 13 and everything went fine I woke up sore as to be expected but start the walking and never looked back and I give thanks to my lord and Jesus Christ and to the doc whom was above excellent. I took pain meds while I was in the hospital.

Heather hang in there - it will deffinately get better - I would do it again in a minute - Try to keep moving - ask your angels to take the pain away while you get up and take care of business

Heather I had my surgery on May 26th. The recovery has been a little harder then I thought it would be. I have 23 staples that are bugging me, i can't sleep very well, my back is sore and I am very emotional. Last night was the best night that I've had. I was only up once and was able to go right back to sleep. So today is better then yesterday. I keep thinking this time next week will I will feel so much better. Would I do it again. In a heart beat. Hang in there. You are not alone.
