Question:
Did Someone Out There Have Problems Losing ?

I have been trying without a lot of success, to lose weight before my wls. I have spoken to a RN about it and tried to stick to a 1600 per day meal plan without success. I do have an appointment to see my surgeon for the last time before surgery in a week's time to do a meal review. what should I tell him? I can only think of a bunch of excuses when I want to be completely truthful. I know I have a terrible relationship with food. That's why I need the tool of wls. do you think he will understand this? There is no way that I will continue to eat like I do foolowing the surgery!    — Pilar12 (posted on November 29, 2009)

You are fooling yourself if you think that eating this way will not hurt you in the long run. You need to take to someone about why you eat what you do and why you lose control. Getting straight with food before surgery is important to success after surgery.

I agree. Youneed to figure out why you eat. And try the seven rules of success for post op and that should help you lose the weight needed. It helped me and if I could do it, anyone can! 1. protein first 2. vitamins 3. exercise 4.journal 5. chew 20-25 times each bite..small bites 6. wait 5 minutes between bites and meals last atleast 20 minutes but not longer than 30. 7. stop drinking 30 minutes prior to eating, during eating and wait 45-60 minutes after eating to drink again. Good luck! hugs, kim

I went on the protien shake diet two months prior to surgery. This is what I did; three protien shakes during the day, and one reasonable small meal in the evening. Plenty of water during the day, 80 ounces. I lost about 30 pounds prior to surgery. Two weeks before surgery, I gave up my small evening meal and had a protien shake instead. When my doctor did the surgery, he said I had NO FAT on my liver, which is what we were aiming for! Losing weight is almost impossible if you are fighting yourself to do it. Find out why you are fighting yourself, and do something about it.
