Question:
DOES ANYONE WITH HEALTHNET HMO HAVE A PCP IN SANTA CLARA COUNTY THAT IS WLS FRIENDLY?

I WAS ONE STEP AWAY FROM HAVING WLS WHEN THE BARIATIC NURSE FOR MY SURGEON CALLED AND TOLD ME SHE COULD NOT SCHEDULE ME BECAUSE THEY NO LONGER TAKE LIFEGUARD INS.(MY CURRENT PROVIDER) I AM VERY DISCOURAGE RIGHT NOW. BACK TO SQUARE ONE! THE ONLY OPTION I HAVE RIGHT NOW IS KAISER OR HEALTHNET HMO. SO, IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS ANY ADVICE, I'M ALL EARS. THANKS, RHONDA    — RHONDA C. (posted on September 18, 2002)

Hi; I am in Union City. i have heard that SCIPA, is good to work with. I think your best bet is to contact the doctor you would like to do your surgery, and ask them. I am going with Dr. Wetter in Redwood city. They recommended SCIPA, if you call, they may even be able to help you find a PCP that is WLS friendly....good luck

I have a PCP at the Palo Alto Medical Clinic who agreed that I should have the surgery. I am seeing Dr. Pam Foster tomorrow for my 1st consultation. Contact Helathnet and see if there is a contract with PAMF. Many of the Drs are not taking patients due to sooo many in their practices but there are many new Drs accepting patients that I am sure will refer you. Good luck and God Bless. Ro

I agree with the others. I had SCCIPA with healthnet. At the time, Santa Clara did not have a Bariatric Surgeon. So I was referred to Dr. Albert Wetter in Burlingame, who works very closely with the mentioned Pamela Foster. I was approved in 2001. HAve since changed my medical group to Mills Peninsula to avoid any further problems.

I wanted to ad that my PCP in Santa Clara county was Dr. Neeraj Kochhar, he is in the Healthnet Network. SCCIPA first refers you to a general surgeon then to a Bariatric Surgeon. Dr. Kochhar has been educated in WLS. He is a great Doc.

I have Aetna, but I use Palo Alto Medical Foundation, and I see Dr. Alison Van Egeren in Family Practice as my PCP -- PAMF is contracted with a number of insurers, so she/they may be part of your plan as well. I decided to have the DS, which Dr. Van Egeren didn't know anything about, but I educated her and she is now very enthusiastic about the results I have gotten. I wanted my PCP to be supportive of my surgery, even though, having a PPO plan, I didn't need a referral, and I have been very happy with Dr. Van Egeren. Diana
