Your surgeon is best qualified to answer this but I would think as soon as your incisions are sufficiently healed so as to prevent any wound infection. I haven't had my surgery yet and don't have access to a pool but that would be my choice of exercise because of the low stress factor on the weight-bearing joints. Good luck to you!

My surgeon's office asked me to wait for 8 weeks for healing and then I resumed my aquafit. Feels great now. sheri

I was told when all of my steri strips fell off and all of my incisions were completely healed which took 4 weeks. Always best to let your surgeon decide this one. When I did go back in the pool- I did put a layer of neosporin on both before and after my shower afterwards. Stay as clean as possible. Best of luck. Dawn

When I went back to my surgeon 9 days post op he looked at my incisions and said I could resume swimming. It was another 5 days before I returned to work. (The YMCA is in the town I work in not the one I live in) So I started swimming laps 2 weeks after surgery and have had no problems with my incisions. The main thing is to follow your surgeons reccomendation since this will vary so much from one person to another. Kevin

My doctor told me three weeks as long as my incisions were healed, and I took it easy for a week or two and didn't overdo it.

It really is up to your doctor. I was given the OK after 2 weeks but I found that I over did it so I had to take it slow. Just because you are healed on the outside doesn't mean the inside is healed.

Generally, it's ok to get in a pool or soak in a tub about 4-6 weeks after surgery. Incisions have to be completely healed before any soaking. Check with your surgeon, though, it may be sooner for him/her.
