u proberly won't and i found it really did not matter Buffets are a no no for me too many choices and i don't eat enough to justify the $I usually order from the appitizer list or early on post op would take a few bites of his protein from my husbands plate, the portions are always enough to share and he would have lots of sides to go with his .Now i usually share a meal with a friend or order the reg meal and ask for a to go box with the meal.I place what i am not going to eat in box before i start to eat .This way i don't overeat.I can not eat most things that r leftover and warmed up but my husband will with no complaints and then i don't have to cook next time .I really enjoy eating out but i also enjoy the results of not over eating and the progress i have made.Good luck

Well, it depends on when you had your surgery. Most Dr.'s tell us to stay out of restaurants for a year after surgery. But of course it is hard, but you won't be able to eat a lot if you are less than 2-3 yrs out. If you aren't (it wouldn't even be worth the money that you would pay for the smaller portion because you can't even eat that) then I could recommend that you share a plate with the person you are with and if you are out far enough then you can ask your surgeon's office for one. It is called a Surgical Patient Information Card and it says this on it: "Your name, has undergone a stomach operation that limits the amount and types of food that they can eat. Please allow this person to order a half-portion, or a meal from the appetizer or senior citizen's menu. Thank you for your understanding". I usually tell them if I go to a buffet, to charge me for a 12-13 yr old, but I am 3.5 yrs out from my surgery. So based on what you can eat tell them the age in which you think you can eat. A lot of people don't know what the card is for or if you tell them you had gastric bypass, they don't know what it is. So I usually ask to see the manager, if they look confused. But your doctor that did the surgery should have given you on of these after your surgery. If you can't get a card, just tell the waiter that you can't eat a lot and to please charge you for a kid's plate. Sometimes I have been asked for the card when I didn't have it. So I said I don't have the card but I have the scars to prove I had it, will that work. And they freak out and say oh no, that is okay and I get my discount. Funny but true. Hope this helps. take care

I got a card that says please allow to order off kids menu but not one about reduced cost. I have never had to use the card tho. Most places let you order off kids menu or I get an appetizer or soup.

I got my card from my surgeon's office, but from what I understand, you can also print a card off of this site somewhere.... or at least I thought I saw that posted once.

ZI got my card from my surgeon. They don't honor everywhere. Most require an explanation. Good Luck.

I got mine at my bariatric Clinic but only used it once because all they offered was 10% off, and it just didn't seem worth it.

Hi! I got one from the doctors office and use it at places like apple Bees, etc for a half portion on meals and pay half price of course. I also use it at buffets and get soups where i can ladel off the broth. I do that several times and then wait 20 mins then eat some grilled shrimp or something that I can eat off the buffet. Best of luck to you! hugs, Kim

TALK WITH YOUR SURGEON, THAT IS WHERE I GOT MINE. I USUALLY DON'T HAVE TO USE IT, I JUST LET THEM KNOW AT THE RESTURANT AND MOST OF THE TIME IT IS NOT A PROBLEM, OR I WILL ORDER THE REGULAR PORTION IF IT IS SOMETHING THAT I FEEL THAT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE LATER I WILL JUST EAT WHAT I CAN AND TAKE THE REST HOME AND HEAT IT. HOPE THIS HELPS

I received mine from Allergan for the Lap Band. You signup on their website Lapband.com and request a card. They contacted my Dr. to verify.

My surgeon was handing them out but I forgot to pick one up. Most places let you order off the kids menu if you tell them why or I'll order an appetizer. The appetizers at some places have more calories and fat than the entrees! usually I'll bring my own container to bring leftover food home.

Hi! I got my card from the Bariatric Coordinator from the hospital where I had my surgery. She told me that not all places will let you use them. But I am going to try.
