It is my understanding that you can't anymore due to the size of the pouch and how your stomach breaks down foods now. Everything I take (meds) or vitamins is chewable or liquid form or I dissolve it in water first. That includes my pain meds as well for arthritis. I don't know for certain but I do know that my meds react very quickly now espeically pain medicine so I take mine at bedtime. Hope this helps. You may want to ask your doctor to be sure but I'm pretty sure that you have to dissolve or have a chewable or liquid. Jannie Jannie

My docotor told me if I had to take pills make sure I can crush them. If I can crush them, Im ok to take it.

My Dr told me I could take pills 2 weeks out, even time release. I have been taking them without a problem. It does make it easier to follow a capsule up with something warm though.

It is my understand that it can be as soon as a day or 2 post-op as long as the pills are smaller size pills. For example, if you were taking a Lortab or Multivitamin SIZE pill, you could take one 1/2 the size. Not to say that you should split those particular pills, or ANY pills w/o asking if it's OK. Those were just examples.

It is whatever your doctor's protocol is for taking pills. Every doctor is different. I had to wait 6 months. I either had to take them crushed or in liquid form. What the one poster said about not ever taking pills again is not accuarate, but it might be her doctor's protocol. You need to ask your doctor this question so you are in compliance with his program.

When I had my leak test after surgery, it has been pills since then. I think surgeons (some) try to control their patients too much. Your pouch is bigger than any pill etc... It is all up to you and your behaviors after surgery if you are successful or not. Just my opinion but, no leaks no problems... Best wishes, MaryLyn

My Dr. advised me to start back on my meds just as soon as I returned home from the hospital. I did not have any trouble with them. I just had to space them out a bit. At two months out I am already on less than before surgery. Yea. Good Luck and God Bless, Norma
