Hi and Happy Birthday!! You can use splenda as a sugar substitute. I think if you try splenda.com you might find some icing or frosting. I think. You also could try sugar free vanilla or chocolate pudding as a frosting. Best WIshes, Mickey

I am single mother too.......I know how hard it is.... I would suggest looking into making homemade frosting with Splenda. I am sure you can use the power sugar splenda to subsitue for the real sugar. Good LUCK..............HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

WARNING be very careful of that Angel Food cake!!!!! It is non fat, yes, BUT realize it is made with mostly egg whites and MEGA SUGAR!!!! (might result in dumping!) Good luck, God Bless, and Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday!!! How about No icing! Angel food is my favorite but without the icing! How about fresh sliced strawberries on top, or other fav fruit, or even some sf/ff coolwhip?? Have a wonderful day!

Happy Birthday! Try sugarfree Mousse! there are different flavors so you can pick which one you want. Also sf/ff coolwhip or hood makes a sf/lf whipped cream from the can that is awesome. Cut the cake to make two layers and fill the center with sf/sweetened fruits/berries put it together and fill the center hole too if you want then whip cream it up! Delish! I make that for my son-in-law who's a health freak! heehee turns out that it's delish!

I am 3 years post op and still dump on sugar. The sugar free or low sugar cakes usually add more fat and they taste horrible. What I do on my birthday, since most people can't stand not giving you a birthday cake is tell them to make or buy a regular cake and just don't eat any. Remember when you were a kid and could fake eating peas, same thing. Happy Birthday. My birthday fell two days after my surgery.

Cool whip does not have that much sugar in it, they may have sugar free, i know they have fat free. You can mix sugar free pudding mix in it and makes a good frosting.

Happy Birthday, Perhaps this is the year you begin a new tradition... Instead of cake (sugar free or not) what about a wonderful fresh fruit dessert. There are a lot of wonderful receipes out there that will focus on the fruit instead. Just a thought and good luck to you.

There is a sugar free carmel ice cream topping that is great. You can usually find it at grocery stores or at Wal-Mart. You'll never know it is sugar-free. My kids love it.

When I find it convenient to go sugar free, e.g. coffee and tea, I choose Splenda if available. Sometimes it's NOT convenient. Sometimes a tasty desert is presented and it would be socially unacceptable to refuse. So what do I do? I go ahead and have some! The trick is to eat a whole lot less of whatever it is than I used to prior to bypass surgery just over a year ago. Instead of eating a "slice" of cake, I'll have a "sliver" -- and just ONE sliver. I'm participating socially, I'm savoring the taste, and I'm not eating enough of the "bad" stuff to do any real harm. Happy Birthday!!

Sweet 'N Low has a line of sugar free cakes and icings. You have to have an electric mixer... you have to beat it with the mixer for 6 minutes (takes forever) then you end up with a fluffy, sugar free, icing/frosting. I can very definitely tell the difference between regular and sugar free icing. You might want to try it.. they have yellow cake, white cake, and chocolate cake and vanilla and chocolate frosting. Sugar free Cool Whip sounds like a great idea too! Happy birthday

I'm really surprised that more people didn't respond like Dawn! I'm 14 months post op and I think a "sliver" will not harm you...I don't dump from sugar and have it now and then...A LOT less than I ever used to! Still losing, Trish Have a wonderful birthday! Sounds like you have a lot to be thankful for! I was a single parent for 13 yrs. with two daughters and I know making that cake for you is special to them....modeling portion control would be a great gift to give them too! Keep Enjoying! Trish
